I recommend photographing newborns within the first 10 days of life. Not only does this allow us to document them at their very newest, but they are typically most sleepy and easy to settle in those early weeks. But if your newborn is already older, don't fret, anytime is a great time to photograph your baby! Just get in touch with me asap.
All newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your home. A lot of clients are afraid that their home is too small - don't worry, I'm used to it! I will ask you to send me photos or video of your home ahead of time so I can bring the right equipment and be prepared to best utilize your space.
When you book a newborn session, I hold space in my calendar but we don't schedule an exact date right away (because birth is predictably unpredictable!) You simply let me know as soon as baby is born and together we pick an available weekday morning.
Don't worry, I get it! Your first is used to being your only and might have trouble adjusting to their new sibling...or perhaps they have better things to do than sit for photos! My best advice for parents is to relax, snuggle your babies, and leave the directions to me. My goal is for your older ones to think of me as a nice lady with a camera who came over for a playdate :)
I call my style baby-led. I aim to create certain types of images, but when it comes to specific poses, I always follow baby's cues. I will guide and soothe, but will never put your baby in a position they wouldn't find on their own. The most beautiful images are often created by baby, and I'm just there to document!
I will bring everything baby needs to wear during the session (I actually provide wardrobe for the whole family if you wish). White or neutral wraps and simple white onesies keep the focus on baby. I'm also happy to incorporate family heirlooms or special gifts, like a bonnet worn by Mom or a hand-knit blanket from Grandma.
